OMC 230 engine overheating.

My OMC engine overheats whenever the boat is running @ 3000 RPM or higher. When running @ 2000 RPM or lower the engine stays cool. The oil level is good and the oil pressure is at 30. I've already replaced the thermostat and the exhaust manifolds and elbows were not hot to the touch. Any information or tips would be greatly appreciated.

------------------
Granite Stater

Re: OMC 230 engine overheating.

I don't have the answer to your question but I myself have a simaler problem on my 3.0 4cyl. I have changed the t-stat and even the impeller. I have even taken off the drivebelt and hand turned the water pump (which seems to be fine). The next step I am going to take is to check the inlet screens for blockage. If I find out this works I'll pass on the info to you. If you should be lucky enough to figure it out please let me know.

God Luck,
Steve

First step in troubleshooting a sterndrive or outboard overheat is to inspect and as long as your in there replace the sterndrive waterpump. Quite a job on your stringer unit. How long have you owned this ,and have you ever changed the pump?
