1977 omc 235 electric shift drive installed new water pump. i have done this one before. It will not pump water. I have checked all passages backed flushed the unit from the hose that goes to the thermostat housing. took it back apart 3 time and everything seems right. if i take the hose off that goes from the drive to the thermostat housing and watched the nipple in back of the engine water will come out but very little speed up the motor and not much more. The only thing i see a miss is that the parts breakdown shows a big o-ring about the size of the water pump housing my kit did have this but this o ring was not used before and worked fine. Any thoughts my hair is turning gray from this thing. Where is that oring supposed to go?

thanks guys

Check and make sure you bent the fins on the impeller the right direction when you put it in the pump housing. I have a 800 mechanical shift. Little different than a electric shift but I am pretty certain the pump and housing are the same. You may have, by accident, installed it in reverse. Pretty easy to do if you had a few Budweisers during installation.

See the way the fines are bent in the housing? If you bent the fins the wrong way by accident it would run backwards and wouldn't pump water.
