Started her up on muffs in the driveway. Shifts forward, reverse, very easy. Out on the water, put it in reverse to back away from the ramp. goes into forward just fine. drive around, engine is working great. When I stop I put the shifter in neutral and the engine idles but won't disengage. It shifts very hard into reverse, and once in reverse, shifts into neutral just fine. The into forward just fine. What's up? Am I looking at the dreaded shifter cable change?

Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

Also just remembered, the engine isn't stumbling when going into neutral. Is there an ajustment on the ESA? It does stumble when going into reverse. Thanks.

Could be the switch or the ESA, no adjustment for not working. Check the switch with an ohmmeter, if it works and the connections are good to the ESA module, and the engine doesn't miss when you operate the switch by hand, you need a new module.
