I've owned a 1984 OMC 3.0 4 Cyl GM boat and it was running fine when I parked it. It's been a couple summers since I put in storage.

I'm trying to get back on the water but I can't seem to get her to fire up. She turns over fine and
Gas is getting to Carb but it seems I'm not getting spark. Points were changed maybe 4 years ago and it ran good after that. Yesterday, I changed the Dist Cap, Rotor etc. but no change...

Spark plug wires are probably 7-8 years old - but didn't want to just keep throwing parts at it...

I have the manual but it's maybe too detailed for me - I'm looking for advice on what tests I can run with my meter... this boat has all kinds of "unique" wiring - not straight forward like an old car... help?

thanks! Dave in Nashville

Service the points

File them with a points file
Rough the gap to .018
Set dwell to 30-32
Set timing to 4
Reinstall cap

You have to service the points every time the motor sits for more than a few months

It should fire (assuming you have a clean fuel system)

BTW, motor wiring (not tilt/trim) is exactly like an old car. A 1960s car

The gas may have phased separated. If it's not clear and does smell like gas then it needs to be replaced

Replacing points and condenser would be in order and cheap enough
