OMC 3.0 Shift sleeve/tube replacement

Does anyone have any recomendations for changing a Shift tube/sleeve hose? I have a 1989 Sunbird and the shift tube that goes around the shift cable is rotten. I have no idea on how to get to it without pulling the engine. Has any one done this without pulling the engine?<br /><br />Doug<br />

Doug, I've never had to replace the hose you're talking about.Changing the cable itself is bad enough.In some cases,engine removal is not that hard.Keep us posted.<br />DHP

Which do you feel will be easier? Pulling the engine or the outdrive?<br /><br />Doug
