1985 omc 3.0 starts great when cold, starts great when i try to start it right away after i run it.
But when i fish for more than about 20 min it takes about 5-10sec of cranking. It acts like it is flooded when it starts,it has plenty of fuel in carb,if i move accelorator pump it sqirts plenty of fuel down carb, but it takes a lot of cranking, choke is wide open.
could carb be draining gas into intake while it sets
thanks for help

hello
that is about right.
it has a carb not a FI. takes a bit to wet the manifold with enough fuel to get fuel in the cylinders. if you suspect fuel perculation just run it about for 20-30 min to make everything nice and toasty then when you shut it off remove the flame arrestor and inspect for dripping venturies. just remember that big old piece of cast iron probably at 150 to 170 degress after shut down will evap most the fuel from the intake manifold. the manifold runners must be rewet each time the engine is started.
a 5 sec crank is totatlly acceptable. if this is the only problem you have with a carbed 3.0 your ok :) .
good luck and keep posting

thanks for post rodbolt, i just got out of garage from working on beast just put a rebuild kit in carb i cant get it to do what it does on the lake, i run it up to temp in garage and let set 10 20 30 45 and 60 min(each a seperate test) it fires right up right away maybe your right about the cast iron i know i cant get all the parts as hot as it gets on the lake with a moving load on the engine.
