HELP! I was recently told by the father (24 year chevy tech) that i had a spun rod bearing on my 1985 3.0l OMC. He told me that i needed a new crankshaft, which would be true i believe. But there in lies the problem, i cant find one anywhere, ive been looking on ebay, craigslist, and google for about 2 weeks now and cant find one for the life of me, any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks everyone!

If you prefer to go new, google either GLM MARINE they are in Canada, or DOUG RUSSEL MARINE they are in new england. Both of these companies carry a full line of parts for your motor.

good luck

thanks for all the help so far. But quick question, i was browsing around and came across a rebuild kit, and in the kit it has man bearing and rod bearings, do i even need to buy a whole new crankshaft or are the rod bearings replaceable in a 3.0l OMC?? im confused. I didnt know a rod bearing was "replaceable"

yes bearings are replaceable however if you spun one odds are you sored the crank and will need to either get it machined and run oversized bearings or just replace the crank.

Re: OMC 3.0l crankshaft

I wouldn't go looking for a replacement crankshaft until you know how bad your crankshaft is. You need to completely disassemble the engine for repair anyway, so once the crank is out, take the crank, block and rods down to a good machine shop and ask them if it can be machined. If the machine shop says it's toast, then it's time to go looking for replacements.

It cost me $75 to have my 3.0 crank turned 10/10 when I rebuilt my engine. A complete 3.0 rebuild kit off Ebay (pistons, bearings, gaskets, etc, etc) was $400+. The total machine shop bill was $400+ for all their work, boring block, crank machine work, rods, rebuild head, etc...

Good Luck,
Dan

I don't know where you are but i see good running 30l complete for 500-800 on ebay.

It was already posted, i don't know if you already tore down the motor?

How would you know it's a spun bearing? Only one. Why?

These motors are pretty mush bullet proof.

Im not 100% its a spun bearing but my father was a chevy tech for 24 years and he said hes almost 100% sure its a spun bearing, but we just got the motor pulled last night and we might be able to machine the old crank if its not too badly damaged. ill keep everyone informed and thanks for all of the advice so far!

UPDATE:

Turns out it wasnt a spun rod bearing after all, it was a broken piston skirt on the second cylinder piston. Didnt score anything went straight to the oil pan. i got lucky! got all the new parts will put together and update when complete. thanks for all the help so far!
