I just got the new head on it and the flywheel tightened up (see previous threads).
It doesn't idle as smoothly as I'd like, but it maybe normal a push-rod and carbed 4-cyclinder.
I idled out of the harbor fine for about 15 minutes. I took it up to 35 for about 5 minutes and slowed down to 5 or so. I then gave it half throttle and it hesitated so bad I thought it was going to die, so I dropped the throttle back to an idle. I tried this several times, but I couldn't get it back up to speed.
It ran the great for the first 20 minutes or so.
I pulled the fuel pump and where the return line enters the pump is full of orange/brown greasy gunk. I think it was completely plugged. Could that be it?
I'm going to buy a pump today. I wouldn't mind having a spare even if that isn't the problem.
Or could it be the coil? I pull one from the junkyard to try it out if the fuel pump isn't the problem.
