So I want to do a thru hull on my boat but dont want to remove the Y pipe in case I wanted to go back to thru prop exhaust or make a cutout to change between the 2. My current risers look like this : http://www.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=...r+risers&um=1&hl=en&sa=N&tbm=isch&um=1&itbs=1

What I was thinking is buying this riser: http://www.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=...r+risers&um=1&hl=en&sa=N&tbm=isch&um=1&itbs=1

Then I would cap the top of the y pipe and just plumb my thru hull? What do you guys think?

Howdy,

You can do what ever works. I know that's not a great answer but thru-hulls are fairly simple. You do need the right amount of RISE in the riser to prevent water from sloshing back up into the riser and possibly into an exhaust valve that's open once the engine is shut down.

(the Y-pipe HAS shutters to help prevent this)

You can keep the Y-pipe too. And you can make your own "Capts Call" (auto or manual cut-outs)

I had Capts Call on my Liberator before I swapped the engine/drive. Since all it did was pizz everybody (in and out of the boat) OFF.........I left them on the garage floor. They seem to work best there!!

ymmv,

Rick
