I have yet to open things up but just wanted to ask a couple questions.
I remember reading that many engine parts are the same as an older
gm car engine, I have looked and looked but cant find where i was reading this.

I see that the ball gears are in really bad shape anything else i
need to worry about when one sees this type of wear?

if i pull the motor out is there any special info that i might need
to insure i get it back in right.

any info on this old omc motor and drive would be a great
help.

thanks
matt

I remember reading that many engine parts are the same as an older

1962-1969 Chevy II/ Nova 2.5L I4 is similar to your 3.0, but I can't think of one part out of one that would work on your boat.... valve cover gasket I suppose, oil pan gasket maybe

I see that the ball gears are in really bad shape anything else i

Yes, if the ball gears are worn on a 45 degree, it is quite possible the front horizontal bearing race of the upper gearbox will have spun in it's bore
If they are worn without a 45, then no

reason i asked this is when i looked at the brp parts lists for this motor
they show lots of parts as "PARTS AVAILABLE FROM LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALERS"

Not sure if i would say they are worn at a 45 maybe a little at the bottom
of the surface but more cupped farther out.
can a guy feel play in the shaft if its spun?
sounds bad if it has spun what the fix if it has?

thanks

I know for a fact that the pushrods are the same as the old GM 4 cylinder. My dad owns a machine shop. He primarily does automobile & industrial engines. He's currently compiling me a list of engine part numbers from Fel-Pro, Melling, etc. I'll post it as soon as it's complete.

I seem to have found kind of the same thing but have not spent any time
getting more info.
I was looking at a after market piston catalog which showed the
pistons for the 3 L omc motor then after looking up a gm 3 L which was from
an old buick i think it was to find the same part number for the pistons.
time will tell, if i need new pistons I will see if they are right or not.
