hi can you help i have a 1993 omc cobra 4.3 v6 ive fitted the update cable to leg-red cable. my boat has only 1 switch fitted to it where cables meet on engine is this a shift assist switch iff not can i fit it to my boat as ive tried every thing it goes in to gear fine sumtimes grinds abit but when trying to return to neutral is is very hard to do iff i lower idle speed until its just running it makes a big difference .

iff you can fit a shift assist is there a wiring diagram and a list of components that are needed.

all parts diagrams are online at shop.evinrude.com (go parts, then sterndrive and go to 1993)

sounds like that is your ESA switch.

Is the drive original? there are different shift rofd heights in the lower units that, if incorrect, can make cable adjustment impossible

you want to get a factory manual -ebay or Ken Cook publications

What kind of electronic ignition distributor? Most of the time the ESA is incompatible with those.

Yes, forgot that OMC got rid of points by then.

With the engine running, depress the switch shift and see if the engine stumbles. If it doesn't, could be the switch or the ESA module. First test the switch with a meter for continuity or jumper it to see if the engine stumbles. If it still doesn't, check wiring and plugs going to the ESA including making sure power is present.
