Hello Fellow boaters.

on my STARBOARD SIDE

The Water Shutter flap is missing from my Y PIPE connected to the transom and Manifold.
The engine got so hot last time that I used that it roasted my Bellows.

I bought the new Shutter flap yesterday. i'll be installing it today.

But just a curiosity.

Where would I find the old Shutter if it broke and fell unto the pipe?
If it fell off, would it block or do any damage to the water cooling system?

Would anyone please explain this to me.

Thank you guys

port side has the shutter flap still there.

Ayuh,.... Pull the drive, the bits are probably in the exhaust bellows, or in the lower unit cavity just ahead of the prop,....

Yep as Bondo says, you should pull the outdrive (pretty easy on a Cobra) and you'll probably see the melted up pieces of it in the exhaust passage below the gimble housing. I fabbed up a hook with a coat hanger to snag it and pull it out of there. While you have the drive off, check the drive shaft bellows for water, if there is any you need to replace it. Check the gimble bearing (spin it by hand, make sure it turns very smoothly & grease it with Marine trailer wheel bearing grease) u joints, (no loosness, stiffness or rust coming out of the joints when you grease em). Clean out the area around the shifter bell crank in the transom mount and pack that area with OMC triple guard grease. When you re-install, coat the driveshaft splines with the same grease. Check engine alignment if you can before you re-install. Use a new gasket between the drive and pivot housing and coat both sides, and the 6 studs, with OMC gasket sealer.
