I recently replaced the alternator on my 1994 Chris Craft 5.0 HO. After doing so I noticed that I am not getting the low end power I used to and the high end WOT RPM is lower than normal, 3800 - 4000 versus 4400. The engine runs smooth but just seems to lack power.
I did have an instance after the alternator swap where one of the 50 amp breakers tripped. The engine ran about 5 - 10 mins after the trip until I noticed the voltmeter was pegged at 18V. Have had the alternator checked and it is ok. Checked and cleaned major battery and starter connections. Checked batt. switch. Ran the boat again voltage running just over 13V at idle and just over 14 at higher rpms. No further breaker issue but still less power.
