Can I swap out the armature plate from mag flash to a points set-up?

Have lots of these motors.-----Assembling a 78 right now.----Yes it is quite possible to fit the good reliable points magneto on them---Might need the older flywheel too.-----But the magflash is also very good and reliable so why go back to points ?

I'm not. Everything tested good except 1 coil was out of spec range. Didn't know what Mag Flash was till I pulled the flywheel. I had a 30 hp OMC had same set-up. Just restored this one and probably keep it. It turned out nice with new paint and decals.

why not convert to ATOM or Sierra red/green ignition modules? now you have a transistor doing the switching and not points that wear and oxidize.

well comparing just 2 charge coils and 2 Atom modules to a CDI with sensor, charge, ignition and power pack i meant its better than either one (CD or points) in basically every category on this motor.
Serious reliability issues with those which is why you don't see them used. The OMC CDI ignition is far and away better than atom modules. even the Phasemaker is better than Atom modules.

The universal magneto ( 1950 to 1990 ) is an elegantly simple set up.---Easy to find parts for.-----The magflash is also a wonderful , easy to maintain set-up.

im not sure where your getting this reliability thing. 1st ive heard. now it is true if you use the modern knockoffs / nova 2 ones with factory coils they wont last long. but never atom/sierra magnatunes. literally never hear of a single failure, including dozens ive done for customers over the years. this system is even much simpler than a points setup.
