I have a 1977 OMC 800 outdrive with a chevy 350 motor that I am trying to get operational, I have received great help from guys on the list, so here is my latest issue I need help with. When I shift into drive from nuetral I get a lot of shaking or "judder" from the outdrive, and it seems like it spins without engaging, then catches with a jolt. Initially this happened only in reverse, but now in forward to. I have reduced the idle to 700 rpm, and this did not help.
Does this sound like parts failure or is there an adjustment I should be looking at? If it is parts failure, what parts should I be looking at? Is this something typical that a total newcomer with tools and skills can repair? And how expensive a repair am I looking at?
By the way, the engine also seems to loose power when in drive at times, once the boat is in gear it can be moving right along, then suddenly bog down, which I suspect is drive related.
