What do I need to do to get my 1978 omc 800 series I/O ready for salt water?

Motor is a 200hp 305 chevy.

Do I just need to flush the motor out after going in the ocean?

Any tips are appreciated.

make sure all your anodes are good, if they are old and chalky clean them up with a wire brush, if you have fresh water cooling check the heat exchanger anode. other wise just a good flush when you pull out, and dont forget to hose off the trailer, happy boating:)

The best way to flush would be splashing it in a freshwater lake and running it. 'nutcase

if the outdrive has never seen saltwater yet, then one by one remove, grease or use nickel tin antisieze, and replace evey fastener on the out drive.
biggest reason in my area I wont work on stringer drives.
costs to much to drill, tap and helicoil all the 1/4-20 screws I have to break off.
