omc 87 225 main jet size -Updated-

Does anyone know the correct high speed jet number for a 1987 225 johnson? Also, what is the difference between a jet number that ends with a "D" or a "C"?<br /><br />Thanks <br /><br />Reddog

Depends on carbuator number. 87s had different carb then 86, but if very early 87 hay have 86 carb.

Use only D's in your motor on either carb set. It has to do with flow.<br /><br />Good luck!

Engine model J225TLCUB --carb part # 398743.. It has 64D in all 6 carbs<br />Have there been any service bulletins on an updated jet size?<br />I measured the jets with a drill set and found 5 jets measure .068 and 1 jet measures .071<br />I guess they have just worn<br /><br />Reddog

I cant find that part number for carbuator. You getting the number off of carbuator body, or off of the float bowl?

Just my luck!! I went outside to check again.The number is molded in the black plastic housing that the butterfly is in,the same housing that you screw in the idle and intermediate jets almost directly opposite the metal cover plate.If you are looking head on at the carb and the carb throat formed a clock, it would be at 3 o'clock. Check all 6 carbs, I will look again later to night. Look for a round plug top of engine behind flywheel or between the cylinders on the exhaust, this plug sometimes has a model number, check this number against the number you have.

Yep,that is where i got the model number from...J225TLCUB.<br />If it helps the serial number is G7459998 and I checked all the carbs and they have the same part number. <br />Again I really appreciate your time,<br /><br />Reddog

Try to locate that carbuator part number in parts book. I look from 1986 to 1995 could not find number, I see main jet from 62 to 64 in the 225. The 1987 225 list 62 main jet. If it was my engine I would put a new set of 64s in it. If you got the engine second hand, you might find any thing in the engine or carb. I dont have a manual that list all fo the number changes. You could get a dealer to look up orignal part number and his computer would give all of the number changes.

The carb numbers were originally on a white sticker pasted on the side plate of the carb assembly.<br /><br />The number you gave is only a casting number.

Thanks seahorse..I'll look for the number on the plates if the stickers are still there.<br /><br />Dhadley,<br /> Since my jets measure oversized ( worn )I was going to order a new set. I wanted to know if there had been any updates from OMC issued so I could order to correct (updated ) jet size.I know that 86-87 was a period that OMC made some carb changes so i just wanted to be current. I also heard that a lot of techs like to run 1 or 2 sizes over on the bottom carbs.

The chart that I have for those carbs on that engine calls for 48M low speed, 14M intermediate, <br />62D high speed.
