OMC > BRP Part Numbers - Help!

Hope this isn't in the wrong section of the forum. I'm having difficulty searching for Evinrude parts since many websites/catalogues are using a newer numbering format.

Example:
I need a new prop shaft.
Both the BOATS.NET and the BRP Official Catalogue list this part as: 0436834
The aftermarket suppliers (such as GLM) list this part as: 5006310 (Note: this is different from GLM's own numbering which is GLM22419).

I was able to confirm that both numbers (0436834 & 5006310) are the same. Does anyone know of a conversion catalogue or a website that converts the old numbers to the new?

The problem is that many vendors (online) don't mention the old numbers. So to search for a part I need the new OEM numbers. This is difficult since the numbers stamped on the parts AND available from the BRP website are all the old style.

Any help appreciated!

What Year/Model Evinrude is this for?
Boats.net will list the correct part based on this info. And, don't forget about EBay for used part.
Here is another source for aftermarket parts, http://www.wsmparts.com/

Bob: You're right, it's a 1997 V4 60-deg looper. Bent the shaft on moonlit, low-tide sandbar : (

tx1961whaler: Thanks for the website - didn't know about that one. And yes, it cross-references pretty good!

DargelJohn: Thanks for the website... but now I have to ask you another question: What has your experience been with aftermarket parts?

For e.g. I did a quick price comparison. A new GLM shaft is $280, the cheapest new Sierra I could find was $353, and the cheapest OMC was $368. Obviously, saving $10 bucks is not worth it so OMC beats Sierra. But $88 b/w OMC and GLM is substantial.

I searched these forums for reviews on GLM and most people weren't too fond of this aftermarket brand - but I wonder if the quality is good for 2-3 years of average use?

Note: I would love to get OMC used parts but I can't. I'm currently stuck in a country with very minimal outboard repair support (virtually no salvage yards and absolutely no used parts sellers). I found lots of good stuff on eBay but if I order a used part from eBay... and for any reason I need to return it to the seller... I'm out close to $100 on shipping : (

Yes it's a 15MB PDF. I usually find the relevant section from the TOC, but if you have a number you'd like to look up (or even the name of a part) here's what I do with large PDF catalogs:

1. Right-click the link on the website and select 'Save Target As'; give it a name and location.
- This puts the file on your computer rather than viewing it thru your web browser with limited control.
2. Double-click the saved file to open. Your Adobe viewer should start-up.
3. Select Edit > Find in the top menu and enter your search term (or part number)
- You can also use Advanced Search for more parameters.
4. Use the forward and backward buttons on the search box to review the matches found.
5. If too many results to review, try fine-tuning your search phrase.

Hope this helps!

I've had good luck with aftermarket parts. I bought a complete engine rebuild kit that worked just fine. From what you are describing though, OEM vs AM, you are not going to save much money on your drive shaft, and you run a risk buying a used part. I would go with your cheapest source for a BRP part. Good Luck

I agree - not worth the hassle/risk. Thanks for the input.
