I had a carb bowl screw loosen and had a leak and when I took the carb off I seen the bowl gasket was bad...it looked like it was rotting ....so I went to a boat parts place and he had a kit...but with out the bowl float..which I wanted..but looking at the kit which I believe was a Sierra...The bowl gasket was made of gasket paper...like mine was
I wanted a new float so I went to a OMC dealer and got the kit there...with the new float...but I noticed the gaskets were made of rubber instead of gasket paper....I asked why they were rubber and the service tech told me the Ethanol has been wreaking havoc on paper fibre gaskets and OMC has gone to a rubber type to prevent this....
Oh..My engine is a 1983 Johnson 35Hp Elcts....
I also used loc-tite on the bowl screws to prevent them from un loosening again
the motor ran like a million dollars after...
...my carb kit package was dated 2008 on the bag.....
