OMC carb problems

I have a 91 four winns with a 4.3 OMC motor. It has a 2 barrel holly carb on it. The problem is it is flooding (pouring out of the 2 circular tubes in the throat of the carb) after I have been running it for maybe 10 or so minutes. I have to let it sit for 10 or so minutes before it will start back up. Here is a list of things I have done to try to solve the problem:

1. rebuilt carb with new filter...myself
2. Took it to someone to rebuild the carb with new filter
3. Put inline filter near carb trying to catching anything that might go to carb.
4. cleaned fuel pump.

Runs fine in the driveway but not out on the water. I was reading on here that it could be high pressure pushing it past the float but I release the pressure and it is still dripping in it. I really don?t know what else to do besides buy a new carb. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Sounds like either your needle and seat is not sealing 100% or your float is too high.

you would think that but it works fine in the driveway for long period of time. i am pretty sure that the float is is right because a professional set it the last time. where can i get the specs on the float just to double check it?

i found the specs which was the float to parrellal with the bowl which i know it is. the other thing i checked was when i had the bowl off, i tuned it up sidedown and blew as hard was i could into it and i did not hear any air coming out.

did you replace the float during the rebuild? the black foam floats will absorb fuel and get heavy, they should be replaced when rebuilding a carb. try to find a brass one

i didnt change the float when i rebuilt the carb but i think that the shop i took it to did change it. if the was soaking up gas wouldnt it happen all the time because it is in gas all the time?

Re: OMC carb problems

just thinking of something i have read before...could gas be boiling in the carb causing the gas to pour out? when i run it in the driveway the water is way colder than the water that is in the lake thus keeping the motor cooler. just a thought.
