OMC Closed system to Raw water conversion

Hello,

87 OMC Cobra 305 GM. Bought this boat used for cheap. I'm trying to solve overheating problems. Can I remove the heat exchanger and run a straight raw water system? I believe this engine came in both raw water and closed system configurations.

Howdy,


Yes you can easily convert to raw water cooling.

You may need to get a different T-stat housing or fabricate something.

Also depending on whether it's "FULL" closed cooling or "HALF" you may have to change the riser gaskets. (full systems have riser gaskets that block the flow of water into the risers from the manifolds)
