OMC Clutch Dog 2* or 5*

Need to replace the clutch dog on an '87 OMC cobra 3.0L. I know this originally came with the 2* clutch dog, but most of the parts I see available are 5 degrees. Do I need to replace the whole gearset, or can I just slide a 5* where the worn 2* was? The reason I ask is because I see the clutch dog for about $69.95 where the gear set is $275-$300.<br /><br />Thanks for the help everybody!

First of all, do you have the orginal 2 degree gears in this unit or where they updated to the 5 degrees?? You can buy individual 2 degree stuff (outboards used them) but really, put your problems behind you and step up and install 5 degrees stuff, for all the componants!! You should not mix 2 and 5 degree gears shifter!!!
