I have posted before on this problem I am having with no reverse on a 1986 4.3L OMC 800 outdrive. I have pulled the reverse gear out and I just needed some advice.
The gear looks as though the inner lugs are worn, they are shiny like they have been ground down a little. Looking down into the prop shaft housing, the lugs on the clutch dog look as though they are rounded off a bit, they are not perfectly squared edges. Also there are metal shavings stuck to the oil when I pulled the gear out.
This may be a stupid question, but, are those supposed to look like that? or are they supposed to have clean edges on them. I have never seen these parts before so dont know. Also I am pretty sure I am going to be replacing these, when I do is there something else I should be looking for that may have caused this damage. Any help would be great.
Thanks
