hello, I had my gimbal bearing go bad, No problem I pulled the outdrive replaced the bearing. I installed a spare outdrive with to verify it was good. I also installed a new water pump on it before a trial run. It ran hot with this outdrive. It was a clean fresh water drive. Now the boat I got it from had a blown head gasket and now I see why. What would make this outdrive make my engine run hot? I hate to swap it back out if I dont have to.

Was the old impeller complete or in pieces? If it was in pieces you need to find ALL the pieces. If you have power steering they are probably in the heat exchanger causing a blockage. If no PS then in the thermostat housing.

Water in the oil?

I found that the new water pump in the outdrive was faulty. The impeller rubber split. Im glad I watch my gauges.
