OMC Cobra 5.0 302 ford 1989

Boat has been sitting and the rings are rusted to the cylinder walls. My heads are excellent with new valves. The intake is also excellent. I have a new starter, water pump, etc. I also have all new marine gaskets and brass freeze plugs to install.

How many years will the block match up with my heads and intake. Any help would be appreciated. ThanksJack

Probably any Marine Ford 302, they were used by both OMC and Volvo, late 80s to mid 90s.

just match block casting numbers and your good to go.

The Fords were based on truck engines.. All you need to look for is the cylinder head casting on your engine. If they are E7 as I suspect they are you can get a long or short block from an F150, year pretty much does not matter from 1988 until 1996... From that install marine core plugs, cam and gaskets.. They will all have the same pistons

Now after a year I cannot remember, but early 1990's they went to roller cams. You will need a roller camshaft and a different distributor gear but it gets you a little more hp

Most of the ford 5.0 marine motors ran GT40 heads and the 351 cam. Look at the casting numbers and the firing order

The GT40 did not come out until the early 1990's.. A 1989 engine would most likely have a set of E7's on it. It may be an HO variant ( 351 firing order ) but nothing special. You could also put GT40's on an engine with E7's originally, and swapping to a marine cam anyway
