I keep hearing about an updated shifter cfable for the OMC Cobra. It's supposed to be RED. Is it completely red, or red on the ends, or what? I have a second-hand boat and I'm trying to determine if I have the updated cable or not.

thanks

that was a long time ago,86-89or so. if it shifts leave it alone. the old cable was black and didnt have a smooth outer jacket. If it was going to screw up it would have by now. The newer cable has a red jacket, not the ends.

Re: OMC Cobra cable question

A couple more good sources for parts:
http://www.sterndrive.com/
They have excellent diagrams.
http://amarket.com/
Just parts
Another thing to look at on shifting problems with Cobra is the lever the cable connects to in drive unit, which is picture in Hastings notes. It gets a lot of stuff in it sometimes and tends to bind up.Also as time goes by cable gets out of adjustment at engine side.
But I strongly agree with previous post:
If it isn't broken or giving you problems don't mess with it.Replacing cable is time consuming.
