Just bought an 87 bayliner with an omc cobra drive for a project boat. Runs good but needs new interior. Upon trying to change the lower unit oil it was discovered that the oil had all drained out because of a crack at the bottom. I am guessing from being left outside with the unit up last winter. The crack is about an inch long and about 2-3 inches up from the bottom. Question is will it cause any problems internally if we weld it. We have the capability to weld it just not sure what can be affected internally. I assume that this may not fix it because it may be cracked inside the exhuast also(?), but it seems to me it's worth the try since the other option is a new lower unit which will be plan B if welding it doesn't work. Just looking for input before we do something we'll regret. Any help appreciated. Thanks.
