Ok so my 3.0 drive shifted like butter when the drive was off the boat. Since my swap to a 5.0 motor my 5.0 drive is very difficult to shift when off the boat. When installed I belive this is translating to the control making the drive difficult to shift front fowrd to reverse. Any ideas on how to improve this in the drive. I did notice that changing the fluid improved the shift performace but after time it went back to being stiff. Is this a bent shift rod? or the shift bearing housing is bad? Im asuming the housing would require a rebuild of the lower unit but a bent shift rod is just bushings and new rod?
