omc cobra outdrive

Recently purchased a 89' 5.7 cobra outdrive to be used as a stand by.The unit was on a running boat. After close inspection outdrive fluid was found leaking from the large seal behind the joint shaft assembly. If I bring the shaft assembly to a repair shop for seal replacement what would a ballpark cost be to replace this seal. I would supply the seal. The part number from doug russell schematic was # 29. Thanks in advance.

Ask the guy doing the work. What he wants for his time. How can we tell you what he gets paid.

I would supply the seal.

Most folks in the Repair business are in it for a Profit,...
That includes the small profit margin on Parts as Well....

Anyways,......
You're looking at a hour or 2, at the prevailing Shop Rate in your area...

Hey diy, cheapest way to do it. Rather easy actually, with the right tools.

Wait the guy doing the work had to BUY tools ?

And he had to learn how to use the tools.

G-d forbid he gets to make a few bucks after paying the rent, and the electric, gas bill, insurance bill.

Ex-wife. Maybe 2. HA.

Best thing would to bring in the whole upper unit so he can pressure test it after seal replacement.

I just bought a real nice 1988 seaswirl with the omc cobra 3.0 engine. The catch was the outdrive was shot and needed replacement. I bought a 4.3 outdrive from this guy claming it will match right up, come home trying to install. The whole thing slides in but stops like 2 inches. I have tried and triend but nothin. Please help!!!
