Ang OMC guys out there who can tell me if the prop shaft seal can be replaced without a tear down? like removing the old one with the drive in place? thanks joe
You need to remove the carrier to replace the seal. If you try to do it without removing it you will most likely scratch the shaft or the carrier and end up with a water leak.
Yes, you can remove the bearing carrier without removing the drive. You need a removal tool for the carrier housing and pray that it's not too corroded in place. I had to use a big hammer puller that my buddy made up and heat. It was a real bear. And preferably a seal installation tool to keep from messing up the seals.

How do you know that the top seals are not bad too? Did you get some fishing line behind the prop??
