OMC Cobra Question/Problem...

Thank you for the responses in advance! I'll make this short...

I had my 87 Starcraft with an OMC 4.3 Cobra outdrive in the salt for seven days. It has always been a freshwater boat. Pulled it out and flushed it at the station in the harbor. When I started the engine and let the water run through to get the salt out, the water poured out of the outdrive by the anode (I think that's what its called) instead of the port where it is supposed to come out under the boat/behind the outdrive. What's broken?

THANKS AGAIN!

If your talking about right next to the transom, that's where the water is supposed to come out.

I replaced the exaust bellows earlier this year...

From my understanding the water that has gone through the engine is suppose to come out of the metal part at the bottom of the transom. It is currently gushing out of the outdrive itself, underneath the anode, right above the lower unit. See pic below please :)

The general location is fine. May be leaking out of the exhaust bellows if it happen to come off.

It sounds to me as if everything is working properly.

If you raise your outdrive to the full trim up positioning (as for trailering) and look at the bottom of the exhaust bellows, you'll see relief cuts in the bellows. The cuts will allow water to drain from the bellows when the boat is running on muffs.
