Hi,
First, I should mention that I have the Hastings web site data and the factory manual, but in trying to adjust my buddies '91 Reinell with a 5.0L OMC Cobra, I've run into something that I can't sort out.
We changed the shift cable and reinstalled the outdrive. Now trying to adjust the settings on the shift bracket. The problem is that it seems like I have too much travel in the remote control cable relative to the travel in the transom shift cable. I can get it pretty close, but even at this setting, the load lever is out of the detent by about a half a step on both full forward and full reverse.
I've slid the remote control cable to the top of its adjustment range, but it seems like it wants another 1/8 inch of adjustment range.
We did not change anything with the remote control. It may have been doing this with the previous cable as well, unfortunately, I didn't think to check this beforehand.. Maintenance has been a bit lax in the past. So this could have existed for some time.
I don't know if it is possible to adjust the cable travel at the remote control or not.
Any thoughts on what I did wrong? Or what to adjust?
Thanks,
johnbo
