I plan to remove my OMC Cobra sterndrive from my boat next week using an eye-bolt in the fill hole and a cable hoist. Does anyone know the actual weight of the OMC Cobra strndrive unit? Does anyone have a photo that they can post of a homemade stand to hold the sterndrive while removed from the boat?

Thanks

I don't know the actual weight but I do know I was able to pull it off and carry it myself without a hoist. Maybe 100-150 pounds?

Knudsen, how come you're pulling your sterndrive? Related to the low oil issue or something else? Please post back & let us know how it goes since I have a similar setup as you and might consider pulling mine in the future to grease ujoints, etc.

I don't have any drawing of stands, but here is one that might give you some ideas on building one. The drives are just shy of 100 pounds, but they are awkward to handle.

Outdrive stand

That's a pretty cool and easy to build stand Don. Thanks for the idea of building one. I too am looking for a way to store my drive while I'm building the motor.

2 pieces of 3/4" Plywood that were 12x12 and 4 pieces of warped 2x4 about 16" long some 3" Deck screws, 20 minutes in the wood shop and bingo ....Instant Drive stand.
Not very pretty, but I bet it'll hold a drive.

Here's another. I copied this design from a local shop, similar to Don's. The lower still needs paint... getting there soon.

Re: OMC Cobra Sterndrive Weight

I pulled mine with no problem, picked it up and carried it to a stand I made.I lower the bow of boat down so skegg just touched floor,I put a piece of 1/4 in.plywood under skegg on floor, then just rocked back.Be sure when you undo the lift rams not to let them fall all the way down.I supported mine with some rope to not damage the lines.I made my stand from a piece of plywood, then attached to sets of 4x4 on the plywood, leaving enough room for the skegg to hang down. When I say 2 sets,I put one piece on top of the other on either side to make it 4x8.I put 4 casters on bottom side of plywood so I can roll it around.Simple but worked. The drive for me was not heavy to carry around.
