I have read a thousand times that a OMC Cobra cannot be converted to mercruiser which scared me because I have twin cobras. A guy on this post who wrote that the transom holes were the same gave me some small hope. I FINALLY got a mercruiser setup to try it out and guess what?,,,,,,,,,,,,,SUSPENSE,,,,,,,, It was the exact hole! My new Mercruiser Alpha one was a perfect bolt and go. Anyone wondering about the conversion, I can testify that it works. I have a 1987 Cruisers 286 with twin 350s and they were OMC Cobras. I'm proud to say that with 1 more outdrive and a few other smaller parts, I'll have twin mercs. The gimbals bolt up hassle free. The OMC Cobras look much bigger than the alpha but don't be fooled. They are identical. I hope I too can give someone some hope if they want to convert. I don't know if power steering or trim pumps are the same yet but I'm working on it. Just excited and wanted to post. :)

Re: OMC Cobra to Mercruiser

Sure the cutout is the same. But many times, when someone asks that, they are actually wanting to bolt on a Mercruiser outdrive to a Cobra transom shield. And that just ain't gonna' happin!

You can also bolt a Volvo SX/DPS transom shield in that hole along with Mercriser Bravo drives.
