omc cobra to mercruiser

I am getting a 1988 subird boat this weekend
used to have omc cobra but only thing there is gimbal
and interplate
will a 140 merc bolt up to inter plate
and matching drive bolt to gimbal
or do I need to replace everything
can't seam to find a cobra

The Merc 140 and the OMC share the same block. With the OMC bell housing the merc could be made to work.

You will need to find an OMC outdrive for that transom unit as no Merc will bolt up.

Converting to a Merc transom unit and drive will involve glass work to fill in the transom then cutting a new hole following the Merc template.

He has OMC Cobra...same cut out as mercruiser. Get a complete mercruiser set up and replace everything. Otherwise you will need to locate a Cobra 3.0 engine bellhousing, bolt that to a merc or omc motor, and then get an SEI adapter to mount an alpha one on the existing Cobra transom stuff. Too much trouble.
