OMC control cables

Is it possible to shorten OMC control cables? I can post a pic if needed.<br /><br />Also on the controls are a knob right below the key. What does it do?

Shorten-No.<br /><br />The knob, if I am thinking what your desribing is for throttle tension.

Can't you just put a loop in the cables?

Yeah I guess I could loop them, I was just curious because it's a small boat.<br /><br />So the knob gives the throttle cable more and less play?

The knob just tightens up the lever pivot.
