I have a 115 evinrude with a omc control ( should be a pic), just bought this boat..........Cant get full throttle, shifts fine, but wont even start throttling until handle is almost pushed fully over, I tried adjusting cable on motor side, didnt seem to help alot.......Before i was through, i broke a screw inside the control pushing on it so hard........I think I can fix it, but what the crap is the problem.......considering buying a contol off ebay just for extra parts inside this thing.
Thanks for any and all help !!

Re: OMC control

I am having the same problem with my mid 70's OMC remote. I haven't cracked the case yet or tried adjusting at engine. Someone had mention cable mabe broke but I wonder why I am still getting throttle response?

Also my quickstart lever has no friction at all. It is suppose to move the throttle cable to a fast idle while still in neutral so maybe we have broken or disconnected parts inside. sounds like we are going to have to go in.
Not thrilled about tearing the remote down, but not much of a choice.

Remember to disconnect battery before cracking case...

Re: OMC control

99% bad cable, no tension on quick start sounds like a misalignment in the control.

Re: OMC control

Thanx TD. I will open her up today. I hope it is just a quick fix as she lifts my starcraft up off the water and sends her bolting across the lake...

A sweet ride..

Re: OMC control

have you pulled the cover and watched to see how far the the cabl pulls befor it starts to move the carb linkage? some motors have a set screw on the linkage and it should be close throttle lever that is in the vertical position.

If you can see the pic the rod is #82 and the setscrew is 71/84. set it close so it will work the carb soon after you shift in gear..

Re: OMC control

Problem is.......there is 6inchs of play after shifting before the throttle cable even begins to move....and at full throttle on the control ( pushing really hard) I might get three quarter throttle on carbs.......

Re: OMC control

TD is correct. When I remove cable and test is with no restriction, it works fine, as soon as it is installed and under stress it seems to not have enough strength to operate normally. So I believe our cables are stretched. I am going to measure mine and then order a new one. The y are cheap enough on here to try a new one.

a cable will not stretch.... the control box has some plastic parts that could be damaged.

dissconnect the cable from the box and push and pull with your hand to see if you have full travel.................

Re: OMC control

Are the internal parts the same on a port and star side control on this unit? ??? or are they gonna be made backwards.
I have a port side control, have access to a starboard, will the internal parts swap out??

Re: OMC control

I had a simular problem...I took the control box apart and found a few of the screws backed off and I could not get throttle...

I cleaned off the lube and then loc tited all the screws in and problem solved...also the one on the warm up lever ...

It could be your problem...

disconnect battery cable when in the box

Re: OMC control

So if the cables don't stretch then when TD says bad cable is he meaning a broken cable?

Funny how we have bad cables and yet thewy still work when removed...

Now I am confused as I replaced cable and now throttle responds just wont back down to idle....

Guess I'm goin back in...Sorry for the misunderstanding..TD...

Thanks AL. sounds like good advice, and if it worked for you....
