Need some help from you electrical savvy guys. OMC forward and reverse shift coils. The manual says they should read between 4.5-6.5 ohms. Readings are 7.5 and 9.0. How does this translate? Are they good or bad?
Thanks for any feedback.

Probably good. They either dead-short or break connection when they fail. Or if the readings were way out of the ballpark, then I'd say it failed. But those aren't in that league.

A poor quality ohm meter will be off by as much as +/- 30%.

As was said, no big deal.

Just a note, if you are getting forward and reverse and no slipping, don't mess with them they are working. I've rebuilt a few of those, tested the coils and they where right out of range and worked fine.As said a good meter is a must and remember temperature effects the readings. The main thing is people breaking the tab on the springs from the engine idle being to high when shifting.

bamaboater - On those coils, 7.5 ohm will pull 1.6 amps. The 9 ohm will pull 1.3 amps, not bad.
beef :D
