omc exhaust bellows

Thanks, so far...<br />I have an '88 omc cobra w/2.3 ford.<br />The exhaust bellows is perforated along the bottom.I looked at a new one and it was the same.<br />Is this normal? Won't this allow the engine to get water in it (in the oil)?<br />Should the bellows be a piece with no holes in it?<br />Is there a replacement part that I need to look for?<br />All help will be GREATLY appreciated...<br />Also, is setting the timing a big deal...<br />Thanks, Bo

The exhaust gets mixed with water right as it exits the exhaust riser. The perforations allow water to drain out when the boat is not in the water. No water can get in the engine from their.<br />Get a service manual and trace the water flow and you will see what I mean.

That is the replacement part, I believe the stock ones, weren't perforated.
