1992 OMC Cobra 3 liter HO (GM). Looking for a flapper valve. Does anyone know where to find one? Dealer said out of production and out of stock. New production will start at a later date.
I don't know who engineered? the OMC flapper but I don't think plastics are the right material to place in the exhaust stream.
Mine burned, rotted or whatever off the pivot rod and jammed in the drive exhaust port. Above 3000 rpm engine would pop back and run crappy from the back pressure. Like to never found the problem. Will know next time.

Re: OMC flapper valve

There was an earlier discussion on the subject and the general consensus (spell) was that it's not needed, no way for water to get high enough in the exhaust system to reach the valves. Just remove the old one and foreget it, I don't think you'll find a useable replacement.

Sir; in all due respect, flappers are more trouble then they are worth.

If you do a search for how to start and run a carbed motor, i wrote, you will see that you should always run the motor a 2-3 minutes before shutting it off, after running it hard.

Water cannot come back up the riser if the motor is running. And that one of the main reasons flappers are put on boats. When you pull the throttle back there is a wave that will hit the back of the boat.

The engineers are afraid the water may come into the riser, running and turning off the motor correctly will negate the need for the flapper.

Also one other reason would be if you beach the boat, with large waves hitting the back of the boat.

Do you beach your boat ?

Good luck in all your endeavors !

Ayuh,...

Up until the raw water pump, Quits pumping,... It's a Non-Issue.....
As long as water is moving thru the system, the rubber, or plastic will last danm near Forever....

Personally,....
I run Flappers,+ will continue to build'em for any exhaust systems built by Myself...
It's Cheap Insurance that works Perfectly, as Designed....
