Hi,
I'm writing this on behalf of a friend. He just found out his block on his 1988 bayliner capri is cracked in multiple spots. Now we are trying to find out the best way and less expensive way of getting a running motor back into the boat. Here are some questions we have.

Where's the best place to look for a block to do a rebuild? Or does anyone know a site that sells the motor already built??

Can we use another motor besides the omc 2.3l that will swap out with the ford omc motor?

Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Try RAPIDO MARINE DOT COM.
Give Raul a call... if he has a rebuild, he won't need the other motor back.

I would personally scrap the Ford and go with a 2.5 or 3.0 liter GM/Merc. Perhaps even a 4.3L V6 if expenditures allow for it, and a good deal is present...That motor offers a great power/economy ratio.

2.3 is all you can replace it with, cause of the side motor mounts. If you can shoe in a 4.3, you will need to change the gearing in the out drive.

The out drive is not geared for a 4.3.

Can't you find a wrecked ranger P/U with the 2.3 liter in it? That's what I would probally do. Then switch the marine parts over to it. I know that Ford if out of the marine business, but the 2.3 is one heck of a good engine, at least in a vehicle it is.

Does the 4.3 have the side motor mounts or is the 2.3 the only engine with side mounts that will fit on the current mounts in the boat?
