Hi I recently purchased a 1977 Starcraft Super Sport and it has a 70HP Evinrude OB. It came with a metal 6gal fuel tank which was leaking from the gasket where the fuel line is attached. I have seen the replacement gasket online but I am not sure how to replace? Do you use a sealant or just clean the existing material off and replace the gasket? Thanks

:welcome: aboard Mark Kaney. Nice to have you join us here at iboats...

Not seeing your gas tank, but thinking it is the typical 6 gallon metal types that we all have seen, the assembly that the fuel line attaches to should have four screws that you remove to remove that assembly. The gasket goes in between the two parts. I would clean off the surfaces and use nothing but the gasket and reassemble it. But others may have different ideas and suggestions. You can pick which idea you like the better once others chime in with their ideas. I am assuming your tank looks like this one;

And you are talking abut this part;

This is one tank I have that I am going to refurbish back to like new.

Hi GM280,

Thanks. Yes this is the same one, and the gasket i can see under the housing in the second picture. There was nothing left of the previous one. Otherwise the tank seems to be in good shape.

Are the 2 little pins sticking out the same amount ?----------If not you may need to replace the o-rings on those pins.-------There is also a wee o-ring on the fuel pin -----3 o-rings and 2 core plugs in total that you might want to replace.

Racer One,

Thanks. Ok will have to look at that too. I saw instructions for this in another thread.
