Is there any other substitute for omc gasket sealing compound? Should you use lock-tite on lower end gearcase bolts?

Blue loctite is fine. A good substitute for the gasket sealer is Permatex Aviation.

OMC Sealer was replaced by BRP Sealer (3M Scotch-Grip Rubber and Gasket Adhesive, #847), part # BMC-0776964 from ishopmarine.com and your local JohnnyRude dealer. It's also available through Grainger for $7.89 which is about half the price elsewhere.

That is sort of correct...sort of. 847 is the replacement for Sealer 1000 and Adhesive M. But it isn't the same stuff as Gasket Sealer Compound which is part number 508235 for 4 oz. and 317201 for 16 oz and still available from dealers and/or ishop. Once you use it, you won't like the Aviation Form-A-Gasket for general gasket and screw sealing anymore. The OMC/BRP stuff is so much more user friendly.
