I have a '95 24' Four Winns with a 454 7.4L engine and OMC King Cobra outdrive. The King Cobra Product# is 3868211 with a 1.42 gear ratio stamped on it. I need a new complete upper and lower unit and I have found a '94 King Cobra that came off of a '94 30' Four Winns with a 454 but the stamps on the lower unit show the Product# of 3868129 with a gear ratio of 1.63. Will this unit work for my boat?

Re: OMC King Cobra outdrive compatibility

Howdy,

It might but you'll have to use a slightly higher pitched prop.

I have heard that all the King Cobras were similar.....but the ones before about 1990 were different. I don't know what the differences are. I have an 87 1.43 King Cobra drive with about 200 hours on it I pulled from my Four Winns. you can PM me if you're interested. You'd need to find out if it's similar enough to use on the newer gimbal. Yours may be more similar to the Volvo SX drives and if that's true the older Cobras will not bolt up. I also believe the *some* of the King Cobras were very different from the SX's and some of them were the same. Maybe someone here can tell you the differences.

Regards,

Rick
