Hi all....
I'm kicking myself right now....but I've learned a lesson and will pass it on.
I just finished re-working the magneto on a 6 HP OMC. It didn't need anything replaced; just a lot of grease all over from being over-lubed by a PO.
Simple; eh? I've done it many many times.
Well; you know how the points have a securing screw with a little bow washer under it; right? And...the condensors are held down by a similar but slightly longer screw.
Wanna know what happens if you get those screws mixed up?
Use that slightly longer screw to hold down the points....and.....it protrudes just far enough below the mag plate that it pushes against the bronze support ring; effectively locking the mag plate in position.
