OMC O/B Shaft Length Measurement

Where do you measure the shaft length on an OMC O/B with lower unit assembled? I know you can tell by the model #, ie, X means 25" shaft, L 20" shaft. Just curious where the measurements are taken.

measure from the bracket where it sits on transom to the cavitation plate...a 15" will measure prox 17"...A 20" will meas prox 22"...a 25" will meas prox 27"..etc
