I'm looking for the plastic washers for the gear oil drain plugs in my '58 Lark. The parts manual gives 27X284 as the part number. Wherever I search online, the part number is not found. I'm pretty sure this is a common part across several motors, but why can't I find it? I've noticed that with other "X" part numbers too when I'm looking for them. What's up with those X numbers in the manual instead of the typical, 6-number OMC part number? Does anyone know how to crack the code? There are maybe 5 or 10 of them in my whole manual. Another example is the 20x52 prop shaft ball bearing. Probably a stupid question with an obvious answer, but it's driving me crazy!

replace the seals on the plugs BRP part # 311598 or Sierra part # 184248, buy several of these, ( they are a one time use item)

The X or A or dash numbers date way back to the early days. Simply add enough zeros and omit the x to make a six digit number. In this case, it would be 027284.

If it were me, I'd just take the old washer into the local parts guy and ask him to match up a current washer to it, and I'd buy a dozen.
