Help please. I am in the UK and have just bougfht a 1997 Four Winns 205 Sundowner. I thought that it was fitted with a 5.7l Volvo engine, but it now seems that it is a 5.7l OMC engine with a Volvo Stern Drive. The serial number of the engine is T0179880. Does anyone know where I can use the serial number to get the exact engine specs, power output etc., and where I can get an operators Manual for this engine. Thanks

Re: OMC Operators Manual

Thanks for the reply, and I'm sorry to bug you all, but I've had a look on the web and can't find any sites that you can enter a serial number into to get the engine specs. The serial number of my engine is T0179880 which I believe is consistent with OMC Serial Numbers. Do you, or anyone, know of a website that would give this information please. Cheers

Re: OMC Operators Manual

Don S should be around shortly and he can answer your questions on the serial numbers.

You should have a joint venture drive. OMC and VP worked together on the SX drive and VP bought out everything to do with the SX or SX Cobra when OMC went out of business.

The years in the US models were 94-98 (or there abouts). Not sure what years or availability the European models were though, but they should be pretty close.

Wish I could be more help.

EDIT

Your engine should be a Ford (5.8) or Chevy (5.7), regardless of VP or OMC. If your distributor is on the front of the engine, you have Ford. If the distributor is in the back, then you have a Chevy.

About this time, Ford got out of the marine segment, but not sure what timeline this was in Europe.

Thanks for the information. Any and all help is much appreciated. The Stern Drive is a Volvo Duoprop if that helps at all. Cheers

Re: OMC Operators Manual

Steendrive.info has a page that shows how to break down OMC serial numbers. It will tell you some info. I think on they're site you click on "OMC help me page".

At marineengine.com when you look for parts it asks you for a serial number I think. I know you can choose year and size and it tells you which model #s

And either way get an OEM OMC service manual. It will pay for itself.
