OMC oring

I am resealing my tilt clutch housing on my 1976 175HP OMC Sterndrive. My local marina can get me all the parts (overnight) but the oring. My question is, can I use a stanard oring? The oring is separating type c lower unit lube & water.

Are you talking about the o-ring that goes around the cap?

I bought a kit that came with all of the seals I needed.

standard o-ring would be fine if you can find one that's not too thick in cross section....How does the old one look? Can just coat the old one in Permatex and it'll be fine... that housing will get water in it from the lip seal on the other end anyways...

Do you have the P/N for the kit?

I thought about reusing the oring, but for a couple dollars I thought I would buy a new one.
