OMC Outdrive 1995 - Won't come off

DRIVE: OMC COBRA DRIVE, RATIO 1.5: 1, SERIAL NUMBER: T00789440, MODEL# 3868158/OMC COBRA, 5.8L, 8 CYL, GAS, MULTI PORT FUEL INJECTIONENGINE: MODEL NUMBER: 5.8 MIE; SERIAL NUMBER: 1275976


Out-drive will not come off: Mechanic (Boat-Tree) tear down to inspect out-drive seal and bellows due to collision with sand bar resulting in water leak and engine not running. Heated and soaked with solvent to release no result. I will be taking over teardown as they will have to cut off casing to continue now my expense.
Out-drive was removed two years ago and since has been on lift when not in use, last owner.

How can I get the Out-drive off?

Well, seeing as there are only six bolts holding it on - guessing they're all removed - then it just might be the shaft stuck onto the coupler. Did you grease it before replacing the last time? What 'casing' were they planning on cutting off?

I doubt the shaft is stuck in the coupler, but you have about a 99% chance that it is stuck in the gimbal bearing. Usually due to water in the bellows. Salt water really compounds the problem. Some I have pulled the engine out of, then beat on the input shaft with a big hammer and knock the drive out of the gimbal bearing, or usually the gimbal bearing comes out of the transom shield and stays on the shaft.
I always replace the complete ujoint assembly and the bearings on the input shaft after a serious beating like that.
Also, for future reference, all those numbers you gave really don't help since there isn't any way of tracking them down. But, if you have the model number it would tell us (me at least) what you have. It would be something like 5.8Fi XXXX where the x's are letters. What are the letters????
